The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 130

I didn’t need to ask or even wonder why,
because each question is answered when you’re near.
And I’m wise enough to know when a miracle unfolds,
this is the last time I’ll fall in love.

The Last Time is easily one of Eric Benét’s most romantic ballads. Tender and melodic, it is not difficult to see how it landed on G.O’s radar and captured his attention.

This early Tykeys era cover is yet another example of G.O’s vocal mastery. This man knows exactly how to find a song’s soft spot and stroke each note with a tenderness that saturates the lyrics with even deeper meaning and emotion. The result makes you ache with even more love and longing.

I love this song and love this of-the-moment in the rehearsal room capture of him singing it. G.O covering The Last Time is a nice change of pace as it is a rare love song in comparison to the others he generally sings. You know, the ones that tend to leave us shattered in the wake of love’s destruction. This song is about succumbing to love and subsequently declaring it with reckless abandon.

Now don’t hold back, just let me know
Could I be moving much too fast or way too slow?
Cause all my life I’ve waited for this day,
To find that once in a lifetime, this is it,
I’ll never be the same.

You’ll never know what it’s taken me to say these words,
And now that I’ve said them, they could never be enough.
As far as I can see, there’s only you and only me.

Beautiful.

G.O’s love affair with music is a relationship he openly shares with us and in fact invites us to observe. Sometimes fiery and painful. Other times blissful and euphoric. But for certain, worth every moment of the magical ride.

  1. Really love this song. And of course, really love G.O.’s version of it, even more than the original artist. He does well @ making Eric Benet’s songs his own.
There is something about G.O.’s voice whether it is in Korean or English… a quality that transcends language. For me especially with this song, it’s like… being wrapped in a big warm blanket. G.O’s voice embraces you and though you didn’t even know you needed it… he comforts you and makes everything better.
    *sniff* I miss him.
